Did you know... that playing a musical instrument improves student's academic performance and overall success in life?!
"Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other because rhythm & harmony find their way into the secret places of the soul." -- Plato
Whitson String Studio, founded by Margaret Whitson, offers group & private coaching and instruction as well as specialized workshops. It also provides the community with Whitson Strings, a hand-selected group of professional musicians available for all types of private engagements and special events. The instructional programs offer students of all ages excellent training on viola, violin and beginning cello, developing the same foundational tools that are required to succeed in school and beyond. Studies repeatedly show that the commitment and discipline needed to play a musical instrument are the same characteristics that lead to a successful education, career and life.
Margaret Whitson has an extensive background in music education dating back to the late 1970's. Based in the Bay Area, she and her husband, the late William Whitson (Founder of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra) worked with about 125 musicians a week for nearly 30 years. Since relocating to the Central Coast, Ms. Whitson has become a highly respected coach, educator, musician and string instructor also in this area. Her various roles include violist with the San Luis Obispo Symphony, San Luis Obispo Symphony Chamber Players, Cuesta Master Chorale, Opera SLO and Whitson Strings; Coach with the San Luis Obispo County Youth Symphony, Founder & Director of Debut Strings and Whitson Chamber Music Workshop; and String Instructor with Strings in the Schools and TeVelde Music, Inc.
